FA Cup - Colchester United (A)

By Oxford City FC

First Round Proper

Oxford City have been drawn away at EFL League Two side Colchester United in the First Round Proper of the Emirates FA Cup. The match will be played the weekend of Saturday 4th November.

The Hoops have earned this reward following wins against Whitehawk (3-1) in the Second Qualifying Round, Leiston (4-2) in the Third Qualifying Round and Bognor Regis Town (1-0) in Saturday's Fourth Qualifying Round fixture.

Manager Mark Jones is looking forward to the tie:

"We’re looking forward to going to Colchester in the First Round of the FA Cup on the 4th November. I’m not sure whether the TV companies would pick this as a live TV game, but you never know!

If you are being totally honest, it’s not quite the draw we’d have handpicked, but it’s a great opportunity for us to go to a League Two club. It’s a nice stadium, I’ve been there a couple of time, and it should be a really good day for us.

We are going to try to push and get as many supporters to come and support us on the day. We are going to try and put on some coaches, so it’d be great if the people of the City come out and support us in Colchester. It’s not very often that we experience these days in this stage of the FA Cup!

We are looking forward to the game. Colchester are currently in the bottom half of League Two, but we’ve obviously got the utmost of respect for them, they are full time professionals and there are some good people at the club. It will certainly be a tough one, but we’ve got to go there and give our best and that’s what we will be trying to do

We’ve got to forget about the tie for the time being as we’ve got two very important league fixtures coming up. We are obviously not in a good position in the league and we need to get some points on the board.

We’ve got a tough game away at Hemel and then at home to Concord. It’s got to go to the back of our minds for now and concentrate on these two important league games as we don’t like seeing ourselves in the relegation zone and we need to get out of it. The only way we will get out of it is by battling hard, we know what type of game it’ll be on Saturday at Hemel"

More details regarding the tie will be announced in due course.
