Oxford City will look to continue their form in the FA Cup as they welcome league rivals Dartford to Marsh Lane for a Second Qualifying Round fixture. The competition has been kind to City in the last couple of seasons, a record run in the 2017/18 campaign followed by a big - 5-0 win in the Second Qualifying Round seeing City to victory in five of their last six FA Cup games, the sole defeat coming in that heart-breaking day away at Notts County last season.
City won’t be the only side on show who to have reached the competition proper last campaign, as the Darts also reached the First Round Proper, however their competition ended at that stage with a 5-0 home defeat against League Two Swindon Town.
Both sides were drawn against Step 5 sides in this season's Second Qualifying Round, Oxford City at home to Cray Valley Paper Mills while Dartford were drawn away at AFC Uckfield. Both sides successfully navigated what would have been viewed as major banana skins, however the Darts were given a major scare on the way.
The Southern Combination League side took a first half lead, and it took until the 81st minute for Dartford to reply. Once they had drawn level, they found two further goals which eventually saw them to a 3-1 victory. The Hoops have a much easier time with three first half goals being backed up by two further strikes in the second half seeing City to a 5-0 win, a Zac McEachran hat-trick certainly a highlight!
Prior to last weekend, the two sides had near identical league records. There was just one point in it until the Darts picked up their first win in four at home to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday afternoon while the Hoops fell to a goalkeeping masterclass from Laurie Walker, who kept his Hemel Hempstead ahead multiple times to eventually earn a 2-1 win.
Regardless of Saturday's result, the scheduled league match between Dartford and Oxford City on Saturday the 20th of October will be rearranged to allow the victors to play out their Fourth Qualifying Round tie.
Unless a replay is needed, Oxford City will return to action a week on Saturday as they welcome Concord Rangers to Marsh Lane in the National League South, 3pm kick-off.
