Oxford City will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend as they make the very short trip down the M40 to face Slough Town, 3pm kick-off. This is the first of two away matches this season that City will play on a familiar artificial surface, Arbour Park one of three grounds with a 3G pitch in the National League South, alongside Marsh Lane and Eastbourne Borough’s Priory Lane.
City’s terrific run of results came to an end last weekend as they fell to a last gasp defeat against Welling United at Park View Road. It was a superb game which ebbed and flowed throughout, City taking a 10th minute lead against the run of play; Kabongo Tshimanga doing superbly to beat the ‘keeper to the ball before slotting into the empty net. The hosts’ first half dominance paid in the end as the sides went in 1-1 at the break.
The roles were reversed in the second half with the Hoops really the side in the ascendancy. It was the hosts that retook the lead though 20 minutes into the second half. Matt Paterson’s missed penalty a couple of minutes after spurned an opportunity for an immediate equaliser. The frontman quickly put his miss right as he tapped home a Ben Jefford cross, however there was to be 90th minute heartbreak as the hosts took the lead for the final time.
Slough Town come into this game on the back of an excellent 1-0 win away at Chelmsford City. They had goalkeeper Jack Turner to thank in the first half as his wonder save kept the score goalless, before Chris Flood scored in the 69th minute to ensure that all three points returned to Berkshire. They fell to defeat in their two previous matches, a 1-0 defeat at East Thurrock United and a 2-1 defeat at home to Dulwich Hamlet seeing them pointless over the bank holiday weekend.
Oxford City return to home comforts following this match as they welcome Bath City to Marsh Lane on Saturday 15th September, 3pm kick-off.
