Oxford City failed to convert possession into points as they fell to a 3-2 home defeat against a clinical Poole Town in the National League South
The Hoops dominated the opening exchanges, eventually taking a deserved lead through Matt Paterson as he hooked a loose ball goalwards from a 20th minute corner. A cute chip over the defence almost found the striker for a second but Nick Hutchings was quickly out to deal with the danger.
Poole Town drew level just before half time. A whipped cross from the right found the head of Warren Bentley at the back post and his controlled header back across goal beat Jack Stevens. Reece Fleet almost struck back immediately for City but could only pick out the crossbar from 6 yards.
Poole we're disappointed to have a penalty shout waved away but this was quickly forgotten as they took the lead a minute later. An incisive move down the right left the defence scrambling to find their shape, Bentley eventually tapping home after an initial shot was blocked.
The visitors then made it 3 in the 78th minute when a quick break from a poor City free kick saw three attackers overwhelm two defenders, Jez Bedford scoring into an unguarded net.
Paterson poked a late consolation for City but more resolute defending saw the visitors run out deserved winners.
