Oxford City made it three wins on the bounce as they edged out Wealdstone 3-2 at Marsh Lane on Saturday afternoon.
A strong opening 10 minutes saw The Hoops take advantage of the visitors slow start as they found themselves 2-0 up. Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain took advantage of visiting 'keeper Jonathan North's mistake, as he rushed out of his goal, beating the stopper to the ball, and placing easily past him to put The Hoops 1-0 up. Zac McEachran doubled the lead just three minutes later, his shot from the edge of the box superbly placed just out of the grasp of North.
The Stones did grow into the game and pulled one back on 35 minutes as Abobakar Eisa met a cross to place home with ease, to make it 2-1 at the break. The second half was a rather even affair with both sides getting forward, however Reece Fleet put the game beyond doubt (or so was thought!) in the 86th minute smashing home from an excellent exchange on the edge of the box. Eisa however grabbed a goal back immediately for The Stones to still give City a nervy ending, however were able to stand firm to record their first home league win since January.
Oxford City Nomads were on the end of a heavy defeat away at league leaders Highworth Town in their Hellenic League fixture on Saturday afternoon. The hosts found themselves 2-0 up at the break through James Milhench and Ash Edenborough, however were able to add five more unanswered goals in the second half through Ryan O'Hara, a second from Milhench, Aysa Corrick, Aaron Ferris and Callum Parsons.
