We can announce this evening that the club have accepted an undisclosed offer from Forest Green Rovers for the transfer of defender Udoka Godwin-Malife. Udoka has this afternoon agreed personal terms, completing a move to the Football League club on a two and a half year deal.
It is a very proud moment for all at the club to see Udoka make the step up into the Football League with the defender having come through the Oxford City Academy, being a part of two very successful sides in the FA Youth Cup, whilst playing Hellenic League Football with the Oxford City Nomads.
He then made the step up to the first team midway through the 2017/18 campaign before making himself a regular in the starting lineup throughout the 2018/19 campaign which, as an 18 year-old, is a remarkable achievement to do in such a competitive league.
Director Justin Merritt commented "Udoka’s development has been fantastic to observe and he fully deserves the opportunity to further his career into professional football.
Mark Jones and the coaching team have worked hard to progress Udoka through the youth academy of the club and into the first team as an outstanding young talent.
The club are happy with the terms of the deal with an initial fee, future payments, performance related incentives and a sell on clause included. Whilst we do not wish to lose our best players we also have to respect when an opportunity that suits all parties comes around. There were a number of clubs in discussions with the club however the player and his representatives were excited at the prospect of joining Forest Green Rovers"
Since his step up to the First Team, he has made 43 starts, with four substitute appearances. Despite never finding the net, he helped the side keep clean-sheets in 13 of those matches.
A huge thank you to Udoka for all of his efforts throughout his time at the club, and we wish him all the best in his new adventure at Forest Green Rovers!
