City Girls shock Triallists
By Wayne Holden
Oxford City girls U18's entertained a team of triallists trying to get a Football scholarship in America.
City themselves also had a new look team with 3-4 new girls added to the squad. This was always going to be a challenge for the girls, but they did not disappoint, as they put in a top quality performance to come away with a 3-1 win. Cou
put City in front from the spot on 15 mins as Kiera Issac was brought down as she rounded the on rushing keeper. Sum
ner then added her 2nd after 36 minutes, as a 1-2 with Issac on the edge of the box completely split the opposition's defence in two, and she coolly slotted home to put City 2-0. On 55 minutes City then went 3-0 up with arguably the best goal of the game, as Issac again was involved, as she went down the left wing passed 2 defenders, and squared the ball to Lara Althorp, who curled in an unstoppable shot with her left foot from 15 yards. City began to tire as the game came to a climax, and the triallists scored an excellent goal to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining. City were then really put under a lot of pressure for the remainder of the game, but held on for a fantastic 3-1 win.
2 pre-season games in, there are very encouraging signs that this new look City squad are going to be real contenders to challenge for the title this season. The girls can now really look forward to their final pre season friendly next Sunday away to West Ham United.
