Bostock Hat-trick Hero as City stay top
By Wayne Holden
Oxford City travelled to Northampton Town and came away with a 7-1 win to remain top and keep their 100% winning start to the season intact.
With both teams on a perfect start to the season, something had to give. With City missing 4 key players in Shelley Knight, Lara Althorp, Ellie Larkin (all Injury) & top scorer Molly Lygo (Holiday), this would see how far this team had come and really test out how good this squad really is, and from the first whistle you could see the team were pumped up for this fixture, and it took them 7 minutes to take the lead, as Dara Austin calmly finished after good work from Kiera Isaac. 12 minutes on the clock and City were 2-0 up as Isaac collected Rosie McCabe's perfect through pass, and coolly finished past the onrushing Northampton keeper. City then went 3-0 up on 19 minutes, as they were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out, and Courtney Sumner stepped up to curl it round the wall only to see it hit the post, but Becci Bostock reacted the quickest to head home the rebound. City were on fire now, and on 24 minutes they almst but killed the game off with a 4th, and it was Bostock who got her second, as she slotted home at the far post after good work from Austin & Isaac. No more goals were added in the first half but City were delighted with the first half's work to go in 4-0 up.
A couple of changes were made at half-time. Chloe Holden replacing Iona Smith at right back, and Austin given a rest after getting through a late fitness test to be replaced by Lauren Page. The 2nd half started and the game was swinging from end to end, but the midfield 3 of Sarah Harrison, McCabe & Courtney continued to run the show much to the frustration of the Northampton players, and tempers boiled over with the referee having to calm down some difficult situations. City went 5-0 up on 60 minutes, as Bostock completed her hat-trick, as Isaac's outrageous overhead kick struck the bar, but one again Bostock reacted quickest to turn home from close range. Northampton did get a goal back on 65 minutes with an excellent passing move and fantastic finish from the lovely forward. On 71 minutes City increased their lead as Sumner's smart through ball was clinically despatched home by the impressive Isaac for her 2nd and City's 6th. City completed the scoring on 76 minutes, as player of the match, Sumner danced her way through 3 challenges before dinking the ball over the onrushing keeper to make the final score 7-1. Although a lot of credit went to the midfield and forwards of City, praise must also go to the back 4 of Smith, Amy Leach, Alexis Parsons & Isabella Richards, plus Holden in the 2nd half, and keeper Lucy Hunter, who were outstanding at the back. City remain top and keep their 100% winning record intact.
