Hat-trick for Isaac
By Wayne Holden
Oxford City continued their winning start to the season with a 6-2 win away to a very strong & physical Moretonville team.
City faced their second game in 3 days with an away trip to Moretonville, and scored within a minute of the kick-off as Rosie McCabe on her first start since returning back from Oxford United burst through to emphatically fire home to put City 1-0 up. You would have expected City to be buoyed by this early goal, but no Moretonville were having none of it, and they then showed City that they would be no pushovers, as their physical presence and fast counter attacking was rewarded on 14 minutes. Some lacklustre defending by City meant that Moretonville levelled the game. The game then swung from one end to the other, but on 26 minutes, City went 2-1 up, as Kiera Isaac headed home from Molly Lygo's corner. City really struggled to play their normal free flowing football for the remainder of the half, and were relieved to go in 2-1 up.
A re-group and change of formation at half-time seemed to work, as a minute into the 2nd half they went 3-1 up as the lively Isaac got her second, as she was quickest to react with another header. Moretonville once again came back at City, and on 51 minutes they got back into the game to make it 3-2 with a bit of a freak goal, as a cross from the right hand side sailed high into the top corner. City though did not let this effect them, and a minute later Isaac completed her hat-trick with a tidy finish in the box after good work from Dara Austin to put city 4-2 up. City really then started to dominate, and on 64 minutes top scorer Molly Lygo got on the scoresheet with her 12th goal in 5 games, as she burst through the static Moretonville defence, and rounded the keeper to calmly slot home and make it 5-2. On 76 minutes minutes City were then awarded a free-kick 25 yards out, as Isaac was brought down. Courtney Sumner took the kick, and planted an unstoppable shot into the top corner giving the keeper no chance. No more goals were added, so the game finished Moretonville 2 Oxford City 6.
A real 2 tough games for City at Milton United & Moretonville, and 2 hard earned wins leave City still sat on top of the table and still with a 100% winning start to the season. They can now look forward to a top of the table clash away to Northampton Town next Saturday, who also have a 100% winning start to their season.
