City Ladies U18 turn on the style
By Wayne Holden
Oxford City U18 Ladies put on an impressive performance in horrendous conditions with a convincing 5-0 win away to Northampton Town.
With a gale force wind against their backs in the first half and heavy rain, City knew it would be very difficult, so anything they could get in the first half would be a bonus, and that bonus came with only 6 minutes on the clock, as top scorer Kiera Isaac got her 20th goal of the season with a clinical finish. With Northampton trying to use the strong wind to their advantage they found a stern back four of Dara Austin, Amy Leach, Becci Bostock & Alexis Parsons very hard to break down, and with keeper Lucy Hunter standing strong as well, City were delighted to go in at half-time 1-0 up.
City knew they had probably done the heard work in the first half, and would really come into their own in the 2nd half now that they were playing with the wind, and the 2nd half was only a minute old when they doubled their lead as player of the match Sarah Harrison jinked her way past 2 players, and chipped the keeper from 18 yards. On 50 minutes it was 3-0 as the same player scored another quality goal. This time direct from a free kick on the corner of the box, where she used the wind to curl it round the wall and into the bottom corner giving the Northampton keeper no chance. 59 minutes and the game was killed off, as winger Molly Lygo cut in from the left hand side, and hit a shot from 20 yards that deceived the keeper, and City were now 4-0 up. City continued to dominate, but didn't add to their tally until the 81st minute, as Lara Althorp slotted home from close range to make the final score Northampton Town 0 Oxford City 5.
