Hat-trick Hero Larkin helps City through to Semi-final
Oxford City progressed through to the League Cup Semi-final with a 6-0 convincing away win to Twyford Comets.
The game was played in horrendous windy conditions, and City found it really difficult in the first half to cope with the wind, even though they were playing with the wind. They scored as early as the 4th minute, as Becci Bostock split defence pass put Ellie Larkin through, and she made no mistake with a delicate lob over the onrushing Twyford keeper. You would think this would settle don City, and the floodgates would open, but no as the wind got worse, City struggled to find their normal free flowing football, and some poor finishing and fine keeping kept the score at 1-0 going into half-time.
Twyford must have thought they were in with a chance after weathering the storm of playing against the wind in the 2nd half, but City were having none of it, and actually found it easier playing against the wind. Like the first half, City scored in the 4th minute again, as Larkin got hers and City's second with a fantastic team goal, as Lara Althorp, Rosie McCabe combined to put Dara Austin through on the right, and she unselfishly squared for Larkin to clinically finish. City really started to play now, and almost a carbon copy goal on 64 minutes with Austin the provider again to cross for the onrushing Larkin to complete her hat-trick, and put the game out of reach of their opponents. 5 minutes later, and it was 4 as some great skills from Kiera Isaac and fantastic shot was saved by the impressive Twyford keeper, but Austin was their to follow up and tap home for a much deserved goal. 2 minutes later and it should have been 5, as Isaac & Courtney Sumner done a little one two on the edge of the box, and the latter finished, only for the goal to be wrongly flagged for offside, when she was quite clearly onside. It took City till the 84th minute to get a 5th, as Austin returned the favour to unselfishly square to Isaac to tap home. The final goal came in the 87th minute, as McCabe burst through the static defence to time her run to perfection, and coolly slot home to make the final score 6-0 to City.
Another fine performance from City, especially in the second half.
