U13 (OM Youth League) - Match centre

Hinksey Park International
Oxford City Blues
Sun 11 Oct 12:00 - League Full time

It's the Dirty Dozen!

Oxford City Blues remain unbeaten with their 4th win in a row in a match which finds them covered in mud & sweat and with 12 points on the board!

The Blues fought a very hard match against fellow unbeaten side Hinksey Park International in today's Oxford Mail Youth C League fixture.
Both teams started very brightly seeing the ball being fought for in the middle of the pitch but it was the Blues who again took the lead within minutes with George making a great run down the right and driving a powerful shot which took a deflection off a Hinksey defender to see it into the net.
Hinksey countered well and matched the Blues for possession and got their rewards 7 mins later in a goal mouth scramble giving Bastie no chance.
It was Hinksey who had the upper hand in the middle of the park and the great goal keeping from Bastie and the fantastic determined defending from George, Cameron and Aaron kept the lads in the game ensuring that they come in level at half time.
The lads decided that they were going to push for the winner in the second half and within 3 mins from kick off Adam scored with a cracking shot coming off the underside of the bar and bounce out from the goal but it was all down to the honest linesman from Hinksey who flagged to say that it had crossed the line to give the lads their 1 goal advantage.
A few mins later saw a fast Hinskey break with a lovely through ball onto an onrushing forward bearing down on Bastie with a 1 to 1 but Bastie bravely stood his ground, made himself big and saved the powerful shot with his outstretched hand but this came at a cost as Bastie hurt his thumb making the great save and had to be replaced by Ramy.
So, with the usual walking wounded scenario of players asking to come off due to tired legs etc the lads (and coaches) were relieved to see them gain a 2 goal advantage following an Ollie free kick onto Adam who volleyed it home.
So 3-1 up and 10 mins left saw Hinksey continue their good attacking football and grabbing a goal in the 55th min and the last 5 mins was a match where Hinksey chucked everything at Oxford City but our lads pulled together to see the game home to remain unbeaten and top the league and Ramy has to definitely have a mention in goal pulling off a couple of saves keeping us in the game!
The referee gave the 'Man of the Match' to Adam so well done to him.
The lads showed a lot of character today, especially in the second half with them all contributing to a hard fought match and it was great to see them coming off out of breathe with dirty kit after putting everything into the game to ensure a win.
Big shouts out to Bastie for his strong goal keeping and good positional awareness, and also to the defenders today for some very important tackles and intercepting the through balls as they kept the team in the game on many occasions.
Nice to see us score some goals up the other end as well and this was a result for all the players to share as it proved that you have to score goals up one end and stop them going in at the other which gets you the result and this can only be done through teamwork.
Well done lads!
