Report - Oxford City 4-1 Chesham United
Second pre-season win for City.
Oxford City recorded their second pre-season victory on Saturday afternoon as they beat Southern League Premier South side Chesham United 4-1 at Marsh Lane.
Goals from Matt Paterson, Ben Jefford, along with a brace from Zac McEachran set City on their way, Dave Pearce netting from the spot from the visitors.
Mark Jones made one change to his side that faced Luton Town XI on Tuesday night with Josh Ashby replacing Matt Paterson as the City boss tested his striking options, against a side that featured former Hoops in Pearce and Matt Bevans.
City started the brighter side; however, it was the visitors who were presented with the first clear chance. Pearce was able to intercept a loose back pass to see him one-on-one with King, however the former City man could not slide a shot past the stopper.
The Hoops’ breakthrough came in the 11th minute. A ball found Zac McEachran on the edge of the box, the young midfielder shooting and seeing his effort slip through the Chesham trialist keeper’s hands and into the net.
There were no further breakthroughs in the first half, Kabongo Tshimanga coming closest to adding a second as he burst through just before the half-hour mark before smashing the woodwork trying to beat the keeper at his near post.
The inform striker was replaced at half time with last season’s top scorer Matt Paterson coming on for the second half. And he had his name on the scoresheet within a minute of the restart.
A penalty was awarded by referee Harry Moore after McEachran was felled in the box, Paterson making no mistake to keep up his good record from the spot for the Hoops.
McEachran then grabbed his second right on the hour mark. It was superbly worked as he linked up with Fleet and Paterson, the latter flicking a return to the midfielder to set him one-on-one with the keeper before calmly slotting past him for City’s third.
The fourth came in similar circumstances, this time Fleet and McEachran linking well to set Ben Jefford free, the left-back also making no mistake as he slotted under the keeper.
Chesham were to get a goal back from the spot. Scott McGleish was set free into the box with King closing him down and looking to have taken the ball at the striker’s feet, however referee Harry Moore adjudged this to have been done unfairly and pointed to the spot. Pearce made no mistake with his effort as he sent King the wrong way.
City continue their pre-season fixtures with a match against Thame United on Tuesday evening. This will now be at Marsh Lane after the match was switched due to the ASM Pitch being unready following the weather conditions!
