Report - Braintree Town 0-0 Oxford City
Deadlock Unbroken in Essex
Oxford City and Braintree Town shared the spoils in a goalless draw as they met in their re-arranged fixture at Cressing Road on Tuesday evening.
The match was originally played on Good Friday, however was abandoned on the half hour mark after heavy rain saw the pitch become too waterlogged to play.
Mark Jones named an experimental eleven which saw six changes to the side that lined up on Saturday afternoon. Reece Fleet, Rob Sinclair, Freddie Grant, Eddie Jones, Connor Stevens, and the recalled Sam Nombe made way as Udoka Godwin-Malife, Zac McEachran, Mamadou Fofana, Ezra Forde, Kavan Cotter, and Lee Henderson all came into the lineup, the latter playing from the start for the first time since he lined up at Chelmsford in November of last year.
A game of few chances saw both sides have their best efforts of the match just minutes apart, midway through the first period.
Firstly, on 26 minutes, a ball was played across the box to an unmarked Cotter who took a touch to cut onto his right foot before shooting, however he dragged his effort wide of the post.
Almost immediately, City were nearly made to pay for a poor piece of defending. A stray back pass saw Craig King scramble back before being able to hack off the ball of his own line. The loose ball was picked up by the home side and ended with a shot from the edge of the box, however King recovered to dive across his goal and gather the ball.
The second half saw very little goalmouth action, however it was King who was forced into the only save of the half. Luke Allen crossed to Ben Wyatt on the edge of the box, however his effort was straight down the throat of the City stopper, who ended up registering his second consecutive clean-sheet.
