Report - Royal Wootton Bassett 0-5 Oxford City Nomads
Free scoring Nomads net another five.
Having scored 11 goals in the previous week with wins over Longlevens (5-1) and Woodstock Town (6-3), the Nomads showed no signs of letting up as they beat Royal Wootton Bassett Town 5-0 on Wednesday evening.
The Nomads were quickly off the mark as Liam Talboys received the ball from a short corner and his shot on the tight angle caught out ‘keeper Lawrence to give the Nomads the early lead.
Following that, Henry Landers and Sami Khawaja both forced excellent saves from Lawrence, before the latter did extend the Nomads’ lead right on the stroke of Half Time. The midfielder unexpectedly went for goal from a wide free kick, the ball once again catching Wootton Bassett stopper Lawrence out and finding the top of the net.
Any hopes of a second half comeback for the hosts were all but extinguished five minutes into the half. A devastating counter attack saw Khawaja and Landers exchange a number of passes around the box before the latter was played clean through to smash home the third.
20 minutes into the half and the hosts were reduced to 10 men. Rory Sproule was sent off for his second yellow card for dissent, making their task even harder.
The visitors eventually grabbed their fourth on 80 minutes. Jordi Ngathe burst into the box from the right and squared the ball to Siyanda Gila. His shot was straight at Lawrence, although the ball slipped through his hands and into the net.
The final goal came from substitute Ben Barrett. Having replaced Ngathe moments before, he charged down the wing before finding the net from range. Only he’ll be able to tell you whether it was a cross or a shot!
The two consecutive league wins has seen The Nomads up to 12th in the Hellenic Premier, their next fixture is against Tuffley Rovers on Friday 3rd November, 19:45 kick-off.
