Southampton Women's Development FC vs. Oxford City LFC

By Oxford City FC

Sunday 13th January

Oxford City Ladies FC went into the festive period top of the table taking maximum points from their league games. Last Sunday saw them beat Winchester City Flyers, keeping them joint top of the league with Marianne Spacey’s Southampton.

On the Win at Winchester
Waheed, Ladies’ First Team Manager, told us: “Firstly, Happy New Year to you all - It is lovely to be back and we went straight into the thick of it with a game against a strong Winchester side. Great performance by the ladies and the scoreline didn’t do us justice in the end. I felt that we were rushed in possession. Winchester has a very physical side and tried to disrupt us and make things difficult, this wasn’t made easier by us not having any game or training in 2 weeks! Credit to the girls they were still very clinical in the final 3rd and finished some wonderful goals. The game should have been over by half time but we made it difficult for ourselves with some silly individual mistakes defensively but this is something we have already started working on to correct.”

Looking Ahead to Sunday
The Ladies side are looking forward to getting back in action this weekend as Waheed explains “We are away in the league cup to Southampton Development this Sunday. We played Southampton ladies 1st team 2 seasons ago and they are a very good side. They have a good, clear philosophy and invest heavily in their squad and infrastructure. We expect a difficult game on Sunday against a good side.”

Fans will have to wait until February for the Ladies’ side return to Court Place Farm.
