Cup Success for Nomads Development
Oxford City Nomads Development lift the OFA Intermediate Cup
Oxford City Nomads Development came from two goals down to win the Oxfordshire Intermediate Cup 4-2 after Extra Time, thanks to a hattrick from Henry Landers and Kyreece Martei goal.
Despite the game seeing six goals, the First Half was a quiet affair with neither side able to have a clear sight at goal. Deni Da Silva produced the half’s best chance, receiving a ball from Udoka Malife only to see his shot blocked on its way through to the keeper.
The second half burst into life on 53 minutes as Berinsfield took the lead through Max Palmer. The forward received the ball on the edge of the box and, with a clear sight of goal, placed the ball past the onrushing Liam Smith. Their lead was then doubled on the hour; a corner was drilled in low to the near post where Michael Hinkins reacted fastest to smash the ball home first time.
With Berinsfield in the ascendency and favourites to see the game out they were reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes remaining as their first goalscorer, Max Palmer, was given a second yellow card for a strong challenge on Liam Smith. This seemed to fire up Nomads Development and they took full advantage, pulling a goal back through Henry Landers. A collision with his own defender saw the Goalkeeper lose control of Jordi Mulvany's shot, allowing Landers to smash into the empty net to give Nomads Dev a lifeline with 8 minutes remaining.
After wasting two golden chances, Nomads Development were awarded a corner in the 96th minute. The goalkeeper failed to claim the delivery and the ball fell to the edge of the box from where Landers drilled his shot through a sea of players and into the bottom corner, taking the Final to Extra Time with the last kick of normal time.
Midway through Extra Time, Landers turned from goal-scorer to assist maker, his run down the right resulted in a delivery into the box where Kyreece Martei was waiting to bundle to ball home. Right on the stroke of Half Time, Berinsfield’s Michael Hinkins was given his marching orders, this time for kicking the ball away after his side conceded a free kick.
Nomads Development calmly saw out the second half of Extra Time, and put the game to bed three minutes from time as the opposition goalkeeper Thomas Lovett felled Da Silva in the box, allowing Henry Landers to complete his hattrick from the spot. They saw out the final three minutes to become the first Oxford City mens senior side to win a trophy this season!
