Ben Dudzinski on Maidstone Defeat

Feb 21, 2022

Goalkeeper Ben Dudzinski praised the Hoops' efforts on Saturday despite losing 2-1 to title-chasing Maidstone.

The Hoops' number one made some superb stops to deny Maidstone multiple times and gained plaudits from both sets of supporters at the Gallagher Stadium. Afterwards, he spoke to us about the game.

Dudzinski on the performance and result:

"I think we gave a good account of ourselves in terms of the battle we showed and the effort we made.

"They scored a screamer for their first and for the second, I could've claimed the cross and dealt with it, so you look at the goals and think we could've dealt with them better.

"I think we needed a little more quality on the ball to create more chances than we did. It was a good performance but not our best performance."

Dudzinski on how the team has improved throughout the season:

"It says a lot about our quality that we matched them (Maidstone) today.

"Today isn't a good day or result but the expectation amongst the team isn't just to put up a good fight and performance, that's the bare minimum with our quality.

"We need to show our very best more often, we'll win more games this way and keep pushing on."

Dudzinski on his super save:

"It all happened so quickly. I think I'm in a position to affect the cross but it gets whipped in with good quality and I don't think I could effect it.

"The important thing was that I dropped off, followed the ball and was in a position to affect it. So I was just looking to give myself time to react and keep good eye contact on the ball and that's what I did."

Dudzinski on moving forwards:

"We're dissapointed but many things today show the qualities we've been speaking about, especially that rescillience and we won't be going into Saturday carrying this result with us, we'll be carrying the positives and this will be forgotten and we'll be looking to put in a better performance."
