Young fullback joins the squad.

Oxford City FC are delighted to announce the signing of young fullback Deago Nelson ahead to the season opener against Bedford Town on Saturday.

The 20-year-old is predominantly a right-back but also has experience playing on the left. His pace and strength make him very versatile across the backline.

Having come through the academy system at West Bromwich Albion, Deago made 37 appearances for the U18 side.

Nelson then progressed through the ages groups into the U21 side, playing the Premier League 2.

The talented speedster went on to make 87 appearances and scoring twice for the Junior Baggies.

Deago told us: "It's great to be here and get it done. I can't wait to get started and get some minutes under my belt.

"Me and Evan played up the left and right for the. last few years together at West Brom, so it's great to have him around. As soon as I Knew Oxford City was on the table I sent him a message.

"This is the best place for me, I know how the manager wants to play, how he loves full backs joining in and that's what I bring best up and down the flank.

"I'm just expecting to have a great start and the club to get off to a hot start and I just can't wait to get going."

Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins said: "I'm delighted to get Deago on board ahead of the new season.

"He will bring energy and speed to the wide areas, as well as quality on the ball.

"So far, Deago has been first-class in training. Adding competition in those defensive areas is key and we know Deago will work his socks off for the team.

"We're all looking forward to working with him this season."
