Lewis Loving Life at Oxford
The young goalkeeper has impressed since signing
Having joined the cub on loan from Aston Villa in pre-season, young goalkeeper Sam Lewis has played every minute of every game so far in a highly impressive start to his first loan away from Villa Park.
“I’m enjoying it” he told this week’s Digital Match Programme.
.“It's been slightly different coming in, I was a bit, not apprehensive because I knew it was a good club, but maybe I didn't really know what to expect, But I think Ross is obviously a great Gaffer, the coaches are really good and all the staff have been great.
“The lads helped me settle straight away. We’re quite a close group and a lot of us are similar ages so I think we've all come together really, well. Now we have to translate that into winning more games. Hopefully the results will start picking up our way now, but for me, I think we'll do that and the basics are all in place.
Looking at the league table, it’s time for City to step up on Saturday…
“Every game it's been tight; we've been in every game, and last Saturday was a great example. We were in the lead, playing well then let it slip and ended up with a point. In reality a point at a tough ground doesn't look bad but we should have won that game and that’s two or three times we’ve done that, I think it's now just about getting over the line in game and having that desire and mentality to win when we're leading in games. Be ruthless and defend the box to see games through. We've played quite a lot of tough opposition and we competed. If you look at it, our performances to points ratio is probably not adding up at the moment, but I'm sure that will change
“We stopped the rot last Saturday and got a decent point away from home. Now we have to build on that. We’ve trained well this week, we’ve got players coming back into the squad, a couple of new faces and if we can get three points on Saturday in front of our own fans, that’s such a positive for us and hopefully sets us off on a string of good results.”
