Match Preview | Merthyr Town v Oxford City
City travel abroad.
Oxford City make the journey to Wales as they face Merthyr Town on Good Friday in the Enterprise National League North.
The Hoops look to continue their fine run of form as they face yet another tough opposition. It is the first time since 2023 that City have won three games in a row.
City's away form has slightly picked up in the last few weeks and it will need to remain robust as the season comes to an end with The Hoops playing four of their last six games away form home.
Earlier in the season, Merthyr travelled to The MGroup Stadium as left with three points after winning 3-1.
Oxford City Manager Ross. Jenkins said: "The mood in the camp is very good, the boys are feeling good. They are taking on board the information that we are giving them.
"Every game is a big game but we have to take them one at a time. Merthyr will be a good side and we know that but we have more than enough to compete with every side in this league."

FORM
MERTHYR TOWN - L W L L L
Merthyr have lost four of the last five. A 4-1 defeat to South Shields followed back-to-back defeats against Spennymoor and Chester.
The Martyrs only win was a 3-1 win on the road against Radcliffe. The weekend's home side have a better away form than home form with nine defeats in 20 games at Penydarren stadium.
The loss of Ricardo Rees doesn't seem to have made an impact as they've scored in every game since mid-February when they played Kidderminster.
OXFORD CITY - L D W W W
City, on the contrary are on the best run of form they've had all year. Three wins in a row for the first time since 2023 and unbeaten in four.
The Hoops have scored 10 in the last four games and over the last five games are one of the. top performing sides in the league.
City's away form still needs picking up as they have four games on the road left this season and they sit in the bottom four on away form.
ONE TO WATCH - Lewys Twamley
Born in Cardiff, Twamley came through the academies at Cardiff City and later Newport County, where he signed his first professional deal in 2021.
Although first-team opportunities were limited, he gained valuable senior experience through loan spells with Salisbury FC and Pontypridd United, the latter in the Cymru Premier.
A former Wales youth international, Twamley has represented his country at under-18 level and was later involved with the under-19 squad, highlighting his pedigree at a young age.
After being released by Newport in 2023, Twamley joined Merthyr Town and that move proved a turning point. He has 21 goals in 50 league appearances across his first spell with the club which resulted in a move to Yeovil Town in 2025.
Lewys rejoined later that year and quickly re-established himself as a key attacking threat. His return has been particularly productive, underlining both his development and the suitability of Merthyr’s system to his strengths.
THE MANAGER -Paul Michael
A former player in the Welsh leagues, Michael transitioned into management at a relatively young age, cutting his teeth with spells at Cinderford Town and later Yate Town.
It was at Yate where he began to build his reputation. Tasked with stabilising the club, he exceeded expectations—delivering competitive performances and cup progress despite working within tight constraints.
In April 2022, he made the step up to Merthyr Town, taking over a side that had just endured a difficult campaign and needed a complete reset.
Michael’s impact has been transformative. He guided the club to the Southern League Premier South title in 2024/25, collecting 91 points, oversaw a remarkable 32-game unbeaten run during that title-winning campaign, took Merthyr to the FA Cup First Round in his first season—ending a 17-year wait and progressed from 9th place in his first full season to title winners within three years.
Since his arrival, the club has gone from near-relegation to competing strongly at Step 2, underlining the scale of the rebuild.
