Match Preview: Oxford City vs Dartford

Tom Mallams • Apr 02, 2022

Dartford are the visitors to the Velocity Stadium, in a top of the table Vanarama National League South clash.

Hoops in search of 3 points

The Hoops have been on the road for the past three Vanarama National League South fixtures, most recently a 3-1 defeat to a revitalised Billericay Town where a Nana Owusu goal was not enough to spark a comeback.

However, Ross Jenkins’ boys are undefeated in their previous four clashes at the Velocity Stadium and come off the back of reaching the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final, after braces from Joe Iaciofano and Jacob Bancroft sealed a comfortable win against North Leigh.

The semi-final also saw Velocity Football programme products, Latrell Humphrey and Niko Nenomen, make the bench. Jenkins’ faith in the Velocity programme is becoming more evident, with a prime example being Ewan Clark who has become a key feature of City’s first team.

The Darts’ have attained 3 wins in their last 5 games which has pushed them into 3rd in the VNLS, putting them back into the title picture with a game in hand on both Dorking Wanderers and Maidstone United who sit above them.

Manager Steve King has formed a squad who are defensively sound, only conceding 35 goals this season, averaging out at just over one per game in the VNLS. However, going forward, they seem to lack firepower as they sit bottom of the top 7 in the VNLS for goals scored this season.

Last time out

The sides shared the points in the reverse fixture with a 0-0 draw at the Princes Park Stadium earlier this season. Chances were aplenty for both City and the Darts during the game but outstanding performances from both Ben Dudzinski and Dan Wilks in between both sticks caused a shut out in November.

Ones to watch: Jacob Bancroft

The Hoops pacey attacker has been in and out of the starting XI in recent weeks, yet having featured in the last four contests, on top of scoring a brace in their last fixture, the forward is giving Jenkin’s headaches in his selection process.

Dan Wilkes

Dan Wilks in between the sticks has played a key role in Dartford’s promotion chase.

Having kept 15 clean sheets in both league and cup fixtures this season, it is fair to say his organisation of the back line and shot stopping ability has produced some needed results.
