Oxford City took on Easington Sports in the first game of pre season at Addison Road.
An outstanding first half performance saw the Hoops go into the break with a two goal advantage before club captain, Josh Ashby sealed the victory.
The game started at a rapid tempo, with new signing Jack Bearne and Tom Scott causing the home side real problems down the right hand side.
It was only 13 minutes before the deadlock was broken. Tom Scott flicked it round the corner. Around the halfway line and released Carbon with his blistering pace. He chopped it back a couple of times before buying a yard of space with some step-overs and fired it in at the near post.
Just over a quarter of an hour later, Potter doubled the Hoops’ lead. The creative midfielder was one-on-one with the goalkeeper and his delicate chip trickled into the back of the net to give City a healthy cushion after half an hour.
City kept the pressure on the Easington goal and Scott and Potter both fired chances over the bar, but at 2-0 City looked comfortable at the break.
The second half began in a similar manner that the first half had ended. City’s third came shortly after the whistle. Tom Russell, the youngster in goal for City, went long and Josh Ashby brought it down with the deftest of touches and rolled it underneath the keeper.
Easington looked threatening halfway through the second half and pressured City’s backline, but in the end it would be City who had the last laugh. Trialist E putting the cherry on top of the cake.
With four goals and a clean sheet in the bag, City can move onto QPR on Tuesday, which will be a tougher test.
The perfect way to start a pre season.
