Back-to-back away wins for The Hoops!

King's Lynn Town 1

Bondo 59'

Oxford City 2

Scott 12'
Ellis 67'

Oxford City had to work exceptionally hard for their second away win of the season as they defeated King's Lynn Town in the Enterprise National League North.

Tom Scott gave the Hoops an early lead as he poked past Chapman following a brilliant control and through ball from Josh Parker.

Terry Bondo drew the hosts level shortly after the half time interval but O'Shea Ellis bagged his first for The Hoops which was enough for the Hoops' second win on the road this season.

Ross Jenkins made one change to his side that drew at home in midweek to AFC Telford United. Tom Scott returned to the starting lineup for the first time since the away fixture against Leamington.

Zac McEachran, Ewan Clark and DJ Sturridge all returned to the bench after lengthy  injuries to bolster the attacking options for The Hoops.

There was some early controversy as Josh Ashby was brought down right on the edge of the King’s Lynn area. The referee awarded a free kick but the City players and bench were convinced it was on the line and wanted a penalty.

Tom Scott put City ahead with their first shot on target after twelve minutes. Ashby’s switch of play was brought down brilliantly by Parker. Parker’s delightful through ball was pounced on by Tom Scott who poked it past Chapman in the King’s Lynn goal.

From there on, King’s Lynn put the City backline under pressure. Metcalfe had his hands stung by a Hall-Johnson rocket.

Aaron Harper-Bailey and Charlie Wiggett dealt with everything

the Linnets threw at them.

Half Time: King's Lynn Town 0-1 Oxford City

It was a frantic start to the second half as Jayden Davis blasted his shot over in the opening minutes.

O’Shea Ellis had a fantastic chance to double the Hoops’ lead shortly after. Josh Parker found Bearne on the right hand side with grass in front of him. The tricky winger found Ellis on the penalty spot but Ellis’ shot went over.

The City midfielder was brought down after the shot and the City bench wanted a penalty, but there was nothing given.

Terry Bondo dragged the hosts back onto level terms after 58 minutes. Roddy’s headed clearance was taken first time and sliced into the corner past a fully outstretched Max Metcalfe.

King’s Lynn laid siege to the City goal but it was O’Shea Ellis who nicked the goal for City. Tom Scott did really well to slide his pass into Ellis. Chapman got his fingertips to the shot but it ended up in the side netting.

The Linnets, once again, penned City into the own half and their box for large periods of play but the City backline threw themselves in front of everything and defended with bodies on the line.

There was a scare for the travelling City supporters as Max Metcalfe went down with a cut to his head and with no keeper on the bench, the fans had to watch with their hearts in their mouths.

Some unsavoury scenes followed as a pint was thrown over the City medical staff and Max Metcalfe.

But in the end, The Hoops were able to hold onto three precious points on the road.

They’ve always said that away wins are like buses… haven’t they?
