Hoops undone by leading-leaders in rain soaked affair.

A brilliant South Shields were just too much for City tonight as they beat City 4-1.

Josh Parker put City in front with their first attack of the game before Paul Blackett and Dillon Morse put. The Mariners in front at the interval. Cedywn Scott got his 10th of the season and Will Jenkins killed the game off in the last few minutes to put South Shields back at the top of the table.

South Shields started the game very brightly. Last year’s Player of the Season, Paul Blackett had a goal ruled out for offside in the second minute of the game. Max Treml was called into action twice inside the first five minutes as well.

But it was City who got their noses in front first. Josh Parker pounced on the loose pass from Sykes and lifted his shot over former-City keeper, Tom Watson.

Six minutes later, Blackett hit the post as he opened his body and tried to bend one in, only for the upright to deny him.

The home side knocked the ball around with immense speed and precision as they looked to get back on level terms.

Paul Blackett did eventually get his goal and his 10th of the season. Daniel Dodds floated the ball in from the left. City had chances to clear but it falls to Blackett who slams it in.

Four minutes later and the hosts were in front. Sean McGurk, who switched from the left to there right hand side, played a driven ball across the face of goal. Blackett couldn’t reach it at the near post but Dillon Morse slid in to convert the chance.

Blackett hit the post once again, minutes before the intervals he went around Treml but his shot from an acute angle ricochets back out off the woodwork.

Half Time: South Shields 2-1 Oxford City

The Hoops were very good in thee second half. They had much more forward runs and look to capitalise on the high line of The Mariners.

City had a couple of really good chances shortly after the hour mark. Westendorf had a chance saved by Watson, before he had a goal ruled out for offside. Clark squared it to Westendorf who rolled it into an empty net before the linesman ruled it out for offside.

After 71 minutes, Cedwyn Scott shot from 15 yards and put the home side three ahead. The home side then were impressive in running the clock down.

Will Jenkins made it four as he received the ball 7 yards from goal. He poked it over Treml’s shoulder to put the hosts home and dry.

City were impressive in the second half and thoroughly deserved a goal. The scoreline skews the performance and on another day City could have left Jarrow with at least a point.

City will pick themselves up and go again as they travel to Marine on Saturday.
