Hoops hope for hat-trick of victories

Oxford City kick off their campaign at The MGroup Stadium in the Isuzu FA Trophy against fellow Enterprise National League North opposition, Peterborough Sports.

The Hoops have won back-to-back games in the league, closing the gap to safety. Jacob Roddy and Isaac Westendorf bookended the impressive 2-0 win over Worksop Town.

Peterborough Sports have had an equally bad run of games, but their form picked up with wins over Southport and Chorley.

Last season, Dan Jarvis snatched all three points for The Turbines with a 94th minute winner. The last time Peterborough visited The MGroup Stadium they also won 3-1.

Oxford City Manager Ross Jenkins said: "This is a competition we did well in last year and it would be good to replicate that this year, if not go one further.

"It's important we build on the momentum from the last couple of weeks."

FORM

OXFORD CITY - L D L W W

City are in their best form of the season having backed up their win against Hereford with a 2-0 win over Worksop. Issac Westendorf scored on his return to the starting 11.

With 7 points from their last five games, City have moved to within one point of safety and appear to have turned a corner since their winless two months run ended.

The quality has been on show throughout the season but the results have finally started to come along with the performances.

PETERBOROUGH SPORTS - L W W L L

Peterborough had a torrid start to the season going winless through the first five games. Their first three points came in a 1-0 win away to Marine.

Since that win, the Turbines have won 3 from the last eight, with a draw to Alfreton.

The last two games they played ended in defeat. Sports finished the 3-1 defeat to Macclesfield with 9-men and then followed it up with a 1-0 away defeat to Spennymoor.

ONE TO WATCH - Luca Miller

A product of the Poppies’ academy, Luca made his debut for Kettering as a 17 year-old before racking up over 40 appearances and netting 7 goals for the Southern Premier Division Central side.

With temporary spells on loan at Desborough Town and Harborough Town also under his belt, the midfielder makes the step up to National League North with the Turbines following his move in the summer of 2025.

Luca is most famously known for coming off the bench to score and assist in Kettering Town’s FA Cup First Round win at local rivals Northampton Town last season.

A classy midfielder, Luca can play in a number of positions where he can dictate the play, bring others into the game and show a real eye for goal himself.

THE MANAGER - Phil Brown

As a player, Brown made over 600 appearances during his eighteen-year career, which took him to Hartlepool, Halifax, Bolton and Blackpool.

His first managerial role came as assistant to Sam Allardyce at Blackpool, before returning to Bolton where he eventually became caretaker manager, only to be replaced by Allardyce.

Brown is most well-known for his stint at Hull City where after saving them from relegation, went on to take them to the Premier League. He won manager of the month for wins against Arsenal, Tottenham and West Brom in September.

Brown built a famous reputation after he conducted his half-time team talk in front of his travelling supporters following a disastrous first-half against Man City. His side eventually lost the game 5-1 leading to the Jimmy Bullard ‘celebration’.
