We are delighted to announce the signing of Elliot Benyon this evening. The experienced striker joins the club ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Dartford, following a spell at Hayes & Yeading.
Benyon started his career back at Bristol City in 2006/07, the majority of his time there spent away on loan, at St Albans City and Crawley Town, before moving to Torquay United on a permanent deal, making his Football League debut in 2009/10 following the Gulls’ promotion.
Since then, he moved into League One where he played for Swindon Town and Wycombe Wanderers, before eventually moving back to Torquay where he remained until 2014. In more recent times, he’s spent a lot of time playing in the National League South, with spells at Hayes & Yeading and Wealdstone among his clubs.
Oxford City boss Mark Jones admitted that Elliot is a player he’s been monitoring for a while:
“We nearly signed Elliot about three years ago, but unfortunately we weren’t able to get it through. We stayed in touch since, and while Elliot has spent this season at Hayes & Yeading, he’s very keen to prove himself again and wants to play at this level. He’s hungry, and we’ve been able to come up with a deal to get him here.”
“He’s an experienced striker, he works hard and he’s good with his movement, and we think that he can come into us and create some competition in our forward line.”
