The Hoops will be renamed as Oxford City Women Football Club from this day forward as we feel this change is a necessary one to keep up with modern day women's football.
City are always looking to move the club forward and we believe the use of 'ladies' in relation to football is outdated and that 'women' is a much better reflection of current society.
Ruth Senior, Football and Sports Development Manager told us: "We wanted to make a bold statement about the next chapter for women's football at Oxford City FC. We understand that Oxford City Ladies carries a lot of history and would like to thank all those who have contributed to that. We want to be at the forefront of women's football in Oxfordshire and with the name change we are celebrating a new chapter in our history.
"This chapter includes inspiring a new generation of female players. We felt that the term 'women' is associated with a lot more positive stereotypes and is in keeping with modern society's thinking on equality."
First team coach Waheed Ramzan echoed these thoughts: "'I am excited with the name change mostly because it signals a new start and a line drawn. The club are doing some really impressive things for ladies football in the local area and we should all get behind it.
"The facilities and opportunities on offer here are second to none in the region and if you are committed to change and development then this is the hub for it. This for me is a symbol of positive and progressive change."
The website and social media coverage will get updated in due course with the new Twitter handle becoming @OfficialOCWFC.
This is a significant and progressive step as Oxford City Women embark on a new era for the club and we hope you can join us for this next chapter.
