Oxford City Ladies FC’s New Year has been dogged by several injuries forcing First Team Manager, Waheed, to make 8 changes to the starting line-up last Sunday. Through determination and hard work the Ladies overturned a 2-1 deficit at half-time to win 4-3.
On Southampton Development Cup Game
Waheed, Ladies’ First Team Manager, told us: “This was far from our best performance and the ladies knew my feelings very clearly at half time. In retrospect, we could of been forgiven for looking less fluid and taking time to adapt as we were forced into 8 changes to our side with only 3 players playing their natural position and are regularly first team starters. It was a simple game for us in the end but were made to work very hard by a dogged and determined young side. Hats off to them they have some great players with bags of potential and thank them for their hospitality.”
On The Semi-Final Draw v Abingdon United WFC
Waheed was pleased with the draw: “Drawing Abingdon is the best pick we could have asked for from the final 4. It’s always going to be a fun (but challenging) fixture whenever we come together and the ladies will be fired up for it. The ladies need to remember that we have some much more important games coming up before this however and our focus needs to be firmly on those.”
Looking Ahead to Sunday
The Ladies side take on Newbury and Waheed is looking forward to a competitive game “Newbury have done well as of late and have definitely been turning their season around. We found it hard breaking them down initially and had to work hard for our 3 points that came comfortably in the end. We will have to start stronger then we have in the last couple of weeks and get our ‘mojo’ back if we are going to produce and equally effective display.”
Fans will have to wait until February for the Ladies’ side return to Court Place Farm.
