Oxford City announce THREE new signings

Feb 03, 2024

Harry Birtwistle, Harvey Greenslade & Giles Phillips join the Hoops.

  • Harry Birtwistle has joined the Hoops on loan until the end of the season from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
  • Harvey Greenslade has joined the club on loan until the end of the season from EFL League One side Bristol Rovers.
  • Giles Phillips has joined the club on a free transfer after leaving Irish side Waterford.

All three signings are eligible to participate in City’s upcoming Vanarama National League fixture away at Kidderminster Harriers.

Harry Birtwistle

Full-back Birtwistle joins the club from Wolves’ highly-rated academy set-up.

Born in Singapore, Harry moved to the UK aged 13, in order to persue a career in football with the ‘Old Gold’.

Furthermore, he quickly impressed the academy coaches at Molyneux and after signing terms with the club, had risen through the ranks ever since.

A versatile full-back with an abundance of pace, Harry has gone on to become a regular in Wolves’ U23 PL2 squad and will now look to make his debut in senior football with Oxford City.

Speaking after signing with City, Harry said: “I’m very happy to sign here and I’m thankful to the manager for this opportunity.

“I’m ready to show the National League what I can do. I want to make my mark and help the team stay in the league.”

Harvey Greenslade

Striker Harvey Greenslade joins City on loan from Bristol Rovers.

He’s been at the Memorial Ground since the age of seven and has risen through the ranks with ‘the Gas’.

Hoops fans may be familiar with our latest addition. Last season, he spent time on loan with Chippenham Town in National League South, and appeared at the RAW Charging Stadium as Ross Jenkins’ side ran-out 5-3 winners over his previous employers.

He then went on to join Southern League side Truro City on loan and played a big role in helping the Cornish side win promotion to Step 2 via the play-offs.

He also spent time back on loan at Bolitho Park earlier this season, but now makes the step-up to the National League with Oxford City.

After signing with the Hoops, Harvey said: “I want to play games and I think it was the right team to go to, in order to further my career.

“I got told about the move after training and once I knew of the interest, I knew it was something that I’d love to do. So, once it was mentioned, I jumped at the chance.

“I’ve spoken to Ross a fair bit and I think it’s good to have him as a manager as he’s been there and done it and I’m excited to work underneath him.”

Giles Phillips

Centre-half Giles Phillips brings both National League experience and leadership to the City squad.

The 6ft 3in central defender was born in Milwaukee USA, Giles moved to the UK with family and in 2019 he joined Queens Park Rangers.

He then spent time on loan with Wycombe Wanderers before joining Aldershot Town in 2020.

He joined the Shots, firstly on loan, but that loan spell was quickly extended and then made permanent after an impressive season.

He went on to captain Aldershot and was an ever-present with the Shots in his two-season spell, going on to make over fifty appearances and scoring four goals.

He then moved across the Irish Sea to join Waterford in Ireland’s second-division, but made a huge impact (once again as captain), helping the side win promotion straight back to the top flight.

Speaking after joining City, Giles said: “It feels good to sign, I’m glad to get deal over the line and I’m excited to get started.

“I’d describe myself as an aggressive defender, but calm & composed on the ball and I won’t shy away from a challenge.

“I’m looking forward to getting going again, we’ve got sixteen games remaining and I’m looking forward to playing in as many of those as I possibly can.”

We’d like to wish a very warm welcome to all of our latest additions and wish them the very best of luck ahead of their time with the club.

We’d also like to thank both Wolverhampton Wanderers & Bristol Rovers for allowing both Harry & Harvey to join us on loan.
