Oxford City Football Club And The University Of Oxford Extend Partnership
Groundbreaking partnership extends to third year.
Oxford City Football Club is delighted to announce the extension of its partnership with the University of Oxford, strengthening a relationship that continues to deliver benefits both on and off the pitch.
The University of Oxford will once again feature proudly on the front of every official Oxford City FC shirt.
From our Men's and Women's First Teams and more than 40 junior teams, the University's branding will be worn by over 600 players representing the Club each week.
Following the success of the partnership's first two years, the renewed agreement reaffirms a shared commitment to three aims: education, research and facilities.
Since joining forces, the partnership has brought together two organisations with deep roots in Oxford, combining the University's world-leading expertise with the ambition and community focus of Oxford City Football Club.
The extension marks another exciting chapter in the Club's development.
Alex Betts, Pro-Vice Chancellor at The University of Oxford said: “We are delighted to be working with Oxford City FC. It's a fantastic club, and the collaboration supports our aspirations to build community connections through sport.
"We want to make the University accessible and relevant to young people across the city, and there are few better ways to achieve that than through football."
"We've achieved a lot together over the past couple of years, and we're excited to be jointly developing a new football and education programme for the forthcoming season".
Justin Merritt, CEO of Oxford City Football Club, said: “It’s fantastic to continue our partnership with the University of Oxford.
“Not only are they a world-leading organisation with an internationally recognisable brand, but they also share our core beliefs in supporting our community in Oxford.
“To continue this partnership is a fantastic endorsement of the direction Oxford City Football club is heading, and we’re excited to build on everything we’ve achieved together as we look to the future.”
Together, the collaboration has created opportunities that extend far beyond football, from educational programmes and research initiatives to facility sharing and wider engagement across the city.
The partnership has also created valuable opportunities away from the pitch, with members of the Men's First Team completing the Oxford University Football Leadership Programme.
The course helped players develop their leadership and communication skills, reflecting both organisations' commitment to supporting development beyond football.
Younger players have also contributed to the University's Football on the Brain research, exploring the connections between neuroscience and football, another example of the partnership making a positive impact for both parties.
Everyone at Oxford City Football Club would like to thank the University of Oxford for its continued support and looks forward to building on an already successful partnership in the years ahead.
