Oxford City Women through to Quarter Finals of the League Cup
Oxford City Women continued their impressive cup form this season, reaching the Quarter-Final of their League Cup.
Goals from Amelia Alves Martins and Chloe Atkins helped City to a 2-2 draw with AFC Stoneham before the Hoops prevailed in a penalty shootout. This is the second cup competition the Female Hoops have their eyes on this season, on top of the County Cup (with the semi-final of that tournament to be played on Sunday).
City opened the scoring only in just four minutes when Ellie White's blocked effort was followed in by Alves-Martins on the rebound. Goalkeeper Iona Ffrench-Adam was also at her best, denying Stoneham from levelling before the break.
After the interval Stoneham pulled level before a Chloe Atkins shot from outside the box put City ahead once again. However, ten minutes from time, the away side levelled once more meaning the tie would go to penalties.
City went on to win 8-7 in the shootout, setting up a tie with Eastleigh in the Quarter-Final on the 27th February.
Well done girls!
