REECE FLEET | IT WAS A NO BRAINER

Andrew Gate • May 26, 2023

After becoming the first player to commit their future to Oxford City, Captain Reece Fleet has said that the decision to stay was a ‘no brainer’.

The midfielder will now take part in his ninth season as a City player and has already etched his name into City folklore after rising to ninth in the club’s list of all time appearance makers.

‘Fleety’ as he is more popularly known amongst the squad & fans, also grabbed the first goal in the team’s 4-0 thrashing of St Albans in the Promotion Final, a goal that will certainly live long in the memory of both players & supporters.

After signing his new deal, Fleet said; “It was a no brainer for me.”

“I had a brief discussion with the gaffer and it didn’t take long to get sorted. I’m looking forward to next season and excited for what it will bring.

“I’ve enjoyed playing games for this club and they soon add up and time flies. I can’t believe that this will be my ninth season here, it’s absolutely flown by but it’s great to be a part of it again next season.

“I’ve been at the club for a long time and I like to think it’s a good fit.

“We’ve got a great group of lads here too, hopefully we can keep everyone together.

“We know that next season will be tough and that we’ll be underdogs but we’ll relish that challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do in that league. “

The anticipation has already started to build ahead of the club’s maiden campaign in the fifth tier of English football and when asked if this was the most excited he’s been ahead of a new season, there was only one answer.

“I think so.

“It’s a little bit of the unknown for us all, as this is the first time we’ve been to the level, so it’ll be a bit different. However, like I say, we’re all looking forward to it.

“We’re not just here to make up the numbers, we’ll attack the league and look forward to the challenge.”
