REPORT City Women Draw 4-4 at Southampton

Ten Person City come back to draw

Oxford City Women shared the points in an amazing 4-4 draw at Southampton on Sunday.

Young forward Yasmin Edwards had very contrasting ends to the match, scoring in the first minute and sent off on the last as well as scoring a second in between while Ellie White and an Own Goal in the 89th minute saw City’s unbeaten start to the season continue.

Edwards’ opener after 30 seconds set the tone for a game full of incident with Southampton coming back from the early setback to lead 2-1 after 22 minutes. White then latched on to an Emily Harris pass to make it 2-2 after 34 minutes only for Southampton to regain the lead a minute later.

Incredibly, Southampton then scored 15 seconds after the restart to make it 4-2 and give City a mountain to climb in the second half.

They started that ascent with Edwards’ second of the game after 75 minutes when the referee over-ruled the assistant to award a goal that made it 3-2 and then in the very last minute a corner bounced off a home defender and into the net to make it 4-4 and complete a gallant recovery from the Hoops

The action didn’t end there though. Edwards was shown a red card for retaliation but even down to ten players City pushed for a win and captain Billie Bough-French’s free kick smashed against the bar with the final kick of a breathless encounter.
