Oxford City Women’s pre-season continued with a battling performance against higher-league Luton Town in which the Hoops led before finally losing 4-2 at The MGroup Stadium.
City went ahead on the stroke of half time when the predatory Ellie White made it 1-0 but the Hatters levelled less than a minute later and then scored a second injury time goal to make it 2-1 and turn it around at the break.
City then forced the pace after the break and went close through Edwards, whose effort hit the post, but were 3-1 down after 65 minutes before Grace Craven once again got them into the game by making it 2-3 with ten minutes to go. However, as they chased the game City conceded a fourth goal in the fifth minute of added time to give the visitors a 4-2 win.
Manager Lyon Theoharous told us
“It’s all about looking at options right now and getting match fit. The scoreline was a little harsh- we hit the post and had a good number of chances but you also need to concentrate and three of their goals came in time added on at the end of the two halves.
“But each game means more understanding and people learning abuot the players around them and this was a really good test against a storing Luton team so there were plenty of positives for us to take away and work on.”
