Oxford City welcomed back from injury Shane Harte and Jack Painton, for the first round of the JPL cup away to Hereford FC.
City dominated the first 20 minutes, creating a number of chances in which to take the lead. With City pushing forward, Hereford frustratingly held solid and hit City on the counter attack, with only a great fingertip save from Jake Brown keeping the score level. With half time coming to a close, City made their dominance count with 3 goals coming in the last few minutes; Sam header, Jed low shot, and Jake P following in from a goalie save from Sam volley. Half time 0-3
City continued the pressure from the start of the second half, and soon went 0-6 with goals from Jed (one) and Shane (two) who were too powerful and pacey for the Hereford midfield and defence. Hereford to their credit remained positive and continued to drive forward, and after winning a free kick on the edge of the box were rewarded with a goal, 1-6. With confidence growing Hereford pushed forward, and won a penalty, which was confidently save by Max who now was in goal. City now reinforced their dominance, and with Mekhi causing the opposition problems with his pace upfront, finished the scoring with two clinic goals. Final score 1-8
Great credit to both teams for a positive and well-mannered game fought to the final whistle. City look forward to meeting Hereford in next week’s league match
