First quarter both teams flexed their strength early on. FC Wilts remained compact, thwarting any intent from Oxford, breaking up the play. The majority of the quarter was played in the middle third with both teams working hard to gain some advantage.
Second quarter Oxford started with more intent, moving the ball around the pitch a little quicker, forcing FC Wilts to play a little deeper. Early in the quarter Oxford managed to get beyond the back line, due to some silky skills and powerful running from Oxfords strikers. FC Wilts kept their shape and started to force play themselves, forcing mistakes. The lead was taken from a well hit free kick from FC Wilts which flew into the top corner leaving the Oxford keeper with no chance.
Third quarter FC Wilts came out with the same momentum, pressing the ball in the middle areas. Once in possession FC Wilts were rather wasteful through a lack of composure, turning over possession to Oxford, who countered quickly themselves and created two good opportunities to level and take the lead; but placed the shots wide of the goal. FC Wilts managed to score another goal late on in the quarter, this came from from a clearance from the Oxford defense from inside their own box, this was picked by FC Wilts 25 yards out, smashed into the top corner again leaving the Oxford keeper again with no chance.
