Kauan Bitencourt de Oliveira looks ahead to FA Cup 2nd Round

Oxford City’s Young Hoops go into FA Youth Cup action once again on Friday night when they welcome Walton and Hersham to the MGroup Stadium (7pm).

Eddie Odhiambo’s youngsters came through a dramatic penalty shoot out win over Chippenham Town in the last round and the prize for the winners will be a trip to QPR in the next round, something that striker Kauan insists will not be in the players’ minds on Friday.

“It can’t be” he told us. “Obviously we all know who we would play, and when that draw came through both teams will have had a moment or two to dream about maybe playing at Loftus Road but that can’t be in your thinking by Friday.

“We have had to fight so hard to get to this stage. We beat Basingstoke away and Thatcham at home then had a really difficult game at Portland. Then we scrapped really hard against Chippenham and it got pretty nervous: even for me on the sidelines because I was injured!

“In the end [Max] Treml saved three penalties when it really mattered and we got through. So we have put a lot of work into this competition already and we need to carry that on in Friday’s game.”

The 17-year-old forward has been back in the First Team squad after that injury and is keen to play a part in Friday’s game.

“It was so frustrating to watch the last round and not be able to play a part” he says. “I can’t wait to be involved again. Walton and Hersham are a good side, we’ve done our homework on them and we will be ready. There should be a decent crowd and if the atmosphere is anything like the last round then we have to try and make that work in our favour.”

Come along and support the Young Hoops on Friday. Kick off is at 7pm and tickets are just. Burnout BBQ will be open, as will the clubhouse bar.
