Campton-Sturridge | "It Was A No-Brainer"
New forward eager to get going.
Oxford City’s newest signing DJ Campton-Sturridge played at The MGroup Stadium twice last season for Hereford and Farsley Celtic and has expressed his delight at joining the Hoops.
He said: “I’m happy, it’s good to get it done early so I can start with the boys in the pre-season.
“It’s great to start somewhere early and get the foundations set early with the team and also with my teammates and build those relationships so it’s really good.”
At only 23-years-old, Campton-Sturridge had plenty of suitors lining up for his signature but having signed for the Hoops, DJ spoke about his reasons why.
He said: “I got some interest from the gaffer and then I came to Oxford and I was really impressed by the presentation he (Ross Jenkins) set out, how he broke down my game, how he broke down Oxford’s future and how we saw things for me.
“He saw that I can play anywhere across the front-line and that I can be a big asset for the club. It was a no-brainer.”
What can Oxford City fans expect from their latest signing?
“I’m quite versatile, I can play anywhere across there front-line, but really I just say that every time giving 100% and one of my main attributes, other than pace and dribbling which is what people may see early but my desire to win is my main thing.”
With City spending another season in the National League North, adding experience to the side is an area identified by staff for improvement and Campton-Sturridge has plenty of it.
He spoke about his football journey and said: “I was at Villa from 7 until I was 20-years-old. The last few years at Villa were a bit stop and start because I had a lot of injuries and a few knee problems.
“Then off the back of that I was at Banbury for the last six games of the season to get my legs back and get used to playing men’s football. I then went to Farsley, played there for six months and then moved to Hereford for 6 months.
“I’ve built a lot of experience and learned a lot from my first season in the league.”
