City looking to complete the cup double

Oxford City look to complete their cup double of the season as they face Abingdon United Development in the Chairman's Cup Final (7:30 Kick Off) on Thursday at Beaconsfield Town's Holloways Park.

Having already picked up some silverware this year, the Hoops will be looking to lift another trophy. They won the Oxfordshire County Cup for the 16th time less than two weeks ago with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Kidlington in the final. Goals from Emma Donohoe and Kitty Crouch were backed up by a brace from top scorer Ellie White to give City the victory.

The Hoops are looking to put the cherry on top of what has been an outstanding season for the side. A fourth position finish in the league followed up by a County Cup win and the possibility of another trophy would result in an unprecedented season for City.

Abingdon United play their league football in the division below City and finished their campaign with a 3-1 victory at hoe over Eversley and California.

The Road To The Final

OXFORD CITY

1st Round - Walkover v Woodley United

Quarter Final - 7-0 v Wimborne Town

Semi Final - 1-0 v Bournemouth Sports

City's first real test of the competition came against Bournemouth Sports in the semi final where an early goal from Emily Harris. was enough to send them through to the second final of the season.

The 7-0 drumming of Wimborne Town in the Quarter final gave the Hoops the boost they needed to go into the semi final with confidence.

Thursday's final against Abingdon United will be a sterner test than anything they've faced in cup competitions this season.

ABINGDON UNITED DEVELOPMENT

1st Round - 10-0 v QK Southampton

Quarter Final - 9-0 v Caversham United

Semi Final - 3-2 v AFC Stoneham

The story for Abingdon United is fairly similar to that of City in this competition.

They began with comfortable wins over QK Southampton and Caversham United, scoring an incredible 19 goals across the first two rounds and without conceding.

The semi final was where the real test lay for Abingdon as they won in dramatic fashion against AFC Stoneham and booked their place against City.

Manager's Thoughts - Connor Walton

Looking ahead to the game Oxford City, Connor Walton said: "We're all absolutely buzzing after our victory in the County Cup and we can only build on it.

"The girls are super excited and keeping them motivated can be a challenge but the trophy is such a motivation for them.

"It has to be business as usual and we can't change anything and focus on the fundamentals that we set out at the start of the season."

With Walton set to step down from his role as Manager of the side after the game, he is keen to shift the focus and emphasis onto finishing off an impressive season, he said: "It's not about me, it's about making sure the team are doing the right things.

"The girls know what to do and what to expect from me. I know it's my last game but the winning another trophy is the important part."
