Oxford City Women's Development Team Win Thames Valley Counties Football League Cup

More silverware for Oxford City women.

Oxford City Women's Development team continued our Women's run of winning silverware on Sunday with victory in the Thames Valley Counties Football League Cup.

A tense 1-1 draw with Larkspur Ladies at Slough Town's Arbour Park Stadium meant that the game had to be decided on penalties.

Yasmin Edwards got the goal for City in normal time. However, the Hoops held their nerve to win the shootout 6-5.

Moreover, Hoops defender Valerie Lawal was chosen by league officials as the final's player of match to cap off a successful day for the team.

It also continues the club's run of silverware for the senior women's teams after the First Team's Oxfordshire Women's Cup victory over Kidlington.

Women's Development Manager Declan O'Hanlon said: "I'm so proud of this group.

"To hold their nerve like they did during the shootout was absolutely outstanding and I couldn't be happier for the team.

"It was a close game, and we really had to battle, but I'm just chuffed to bits for the girls who've been brilliant all season. They deserve this moment.

"We've had plenty of success stories this season, with a number of players making the step-up to the first team at times, and also players in and around the squad.

"Winning this really caps of a successful season."

Congratulations girls!
