July 26, 2025

City face Newport in third pre season game.

Oxford City Women continue their 2025/26 Southern Regional Women's Football League preparations with an away fixture against on-the-rise Newport Pagnell.

City's last time out was a valiant performance against a quality Abingdon United side, which ended in a 3-2 defeat after Ellie White and Yasmin Edwards netted for The Hoops.

They come up against another stellar side in Newport Pagnell who are coming off the back of an exceptional FA Cup run and a third place finish in their league.

Oxford City Manager Lyon Theoharous has said, in preparation for this game: "I'm really looking forward to another test to show how far we have come in so little time ahead of an exciting season.

"A big push in this game can really cement the positive work put in so far from all involved but there is so much more to come."

Newport Pagnell v Oxford City

Willen Road – Sunday 27th July – 2:00pm
Pre Season Friendly

ONE TO WATCH - Elizabeth Sanders

With 14 goals in 14 starts last season for Newport Pagnell, Sanders finished among the highest scorers in the East Midlands Women's Regional Football League.

With experience at a higher level, having played for Luton Town, Sanders was an integral part of the side and here ver presence up front was a testament to that fact.

As Newport averaged nearly three goals a game last season, Sanders' influence over games was apparent and her clincal finishing was a big factor in the sides Cup and League finishes.

THE MANAGER - Neil Griffiths

Neil Griffiths took charge of Newport Pagnell Town Women in December 2023 and successfully led the team through the 2023–24 season, earning promotion into the East Midlands Women’s Regional League Division One South.

The league success wasn't the only accolade for Griffiths last season, he oversaw a landmark FA Cup run, beating teams from higher tiers, including a comeback win after trailing 3–1 and defeating sides averaging 4.5 goals per game.

Griffiths also led Newport Pagnell to the Berks & Bucks Senior Women’s Cup Final in March 2025.
