City open their SRWFL campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory on the road against Fleet Town.

Kate Parsons, Meira Ashby, and Yazmin Edwards were among the goals as City took all three points back to Oxford on the opening day.

The Hoops came out strong, and certainly kept Fleet’s no.1 busy from the get-go, firstly as Edwards struck an effort which stung the gloves of the outcoming keeper on 4 minutes.

It was then Ellie White with a golden opportunity as she, through on goal in the 9th minute, poked her effort just wide. To keep Fleet’s shotstopper alert, Ashby rounded off a dominant  opening 10 minutes with a low effort which, once again, could not beat Fleet’s keeper, who denied with her feet.

The opening goal was inevitable for the Hoops, and it was Parsons who opened the scoring, as the ball was slotted through to her on 18 minutes, allowing her pass into the net to take a deserved advantage.

White almost doubled that advantage moments after the restart, but the home keeper did well in the one-on-one scenario, getting down to her right to tip the ball around the post.

Whilst City continued to look the more likely to score, Fleet did create their chances, the most notable of which came in the 34th minute, as Aimee Flood had to react to tip a dipping long-range free-kick over the crossbar.

As the clock ticked over the 45th minute, Ashby doubled the Hoops’ advantage, as Edwards bolted down the right and delivered a dangerous ball.

White saw her shot saved, but Ashby made no mistake with her follow-up, firing home from close range to open her City account.

A lengthy stoppage time saw Fleet almost claw one back, as they found themselves through on goal, one-on-one with the outcoming Flood, but the hosts poked their effort wide, and City went in at the half with a two-goal cushion.

After the restart, half-time substitute Abi Whistler looked to make an immediate impression with an excellent ball through to White, who could not convert. Seconds after, the Hoops went close again, with an effort which powered into the post.

Flood was forced into action in the 54th minute as the City defence lost possession, allowing the hosts to charge forward and let fly from just inside the penalty area. Flood did well to react with a diving save, getting a strong glove to the effort to deny.



The 63rd minute saw City make it three, as Billie Bough-French’s thumping long-range free-kick was pushed back into the penalty area by the keeper, allowing Edwards to fire home from close range.

In what looked certain to be a fourth, a squared ball found Parsons in the middle of the box, with the goalscorer searching for her second with a first-time effort which was excellently saved by the feet of Fleet’s keeper.

That wasn’t the last time the keeper was tested as, in the 85th minute, Edwards looked to sneak an effort in at the near post, but she was denied her second.

City continued to push on, with positive forward play up until full time, but they could not add their fourth, with the following whistle rounding off a dominant opening day performance from the Hoops, with a clean sheet to compliment the three scored at the other end.
