The Inaugural Women's Business Tournament

Following on from our highly-successful Business Tournament, Oxford City FC were proud to host our inaugural Women’s Business Tournament, featuring female teams from across Oxfordshire.

The competition mirrored the World Cup with group stages leading to semi-finals and then a final where RAF Brize Norton claimed the trophy after a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Ridge & Partners LLP in the final.

Aliyah Anthony, Head of Women’s Development at Oxford City told us:

“We’d like to thank every team for coming along and making it such a great event. We had high hopes for our own team but it was very competitive and the RAF Brize Norton team were worthy winners.

“For the game to be growing and expanding, and for us to be able to host a Women’s event is so impressive and we hope it encourages even more teams to come and join us next time around”.

The tournament was also an important milestone for Women;s football in the armed services as Sergeant Kyle Scott, RAF FA grassroots women’s lead, told the Oxford Mail: "This was a great first outing for the women, and it is fantastic to see participation and opportunities continuing to grow.

Over the coming months, I hope this framework will be introduced across all RAF stations to further support and accelerate the growth of women’s football."

The team’s success follows a grassroots initiative led by the RAF Football Association and its sub-committee to boost women’s participation and create new playing opportunities across the service.
