City Women lose at the league leaders

Oxford City Women suffered their first defeat of the season as Wycombe Wanderers continued their 100% winning start with a 3-0 win this afternoon in Burnham.
As has become the pattern with their games this season there was an early goal, this time for the home side who made it 1-0 after just three minutes when Potter tapped home.
City then had tosoak up early pressure with keeper Kiera Maskell makingsome important saves and the back line having to stand firm until City began to make inroads further forward and Kate Parsons forced a good save from the home keeper and the ever-dangerous Ellie White went close in injury time.
With rain now lashing down both teams batteld away and City might have levelled through Lucy White as well as an Emily Harris effort and sub Ellie Walecki almost helping the side draw level until two quick goals, the first from Chloe Melton after 78 and a third from former Oxford United defender Cat Beaver on 81 minutes ended City’s defiance and gave Wycombe a slightly flattering 3-0 win.
Manager Lyon told us
“I couldn’t have asked for any more from the girls in very tricky conditions. We conceded early but then the application and attitude were spot on and on another day one of those chances go in and we get something out of the game.
“It was a good game to watch and I want to thank the fans who travelled and braved the rain to support the girls. We were never going to go undefeated all seaosn so now it’s all about showig a positive reaction next time out.”
